Located on the north edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, Denton Independent School District (DISD) is the second fastest-growing school district in North Texas.   The current student population of 20,013 is anticipated to exceed 25,000 by 2010.

DISD’s dedicated staff delivers all of the programs of a larger school district, while maintaining a more optimal "small school climate." The district extends 180 square miles with a total of 30 facilities.

To maintain this climate, DISD has adopted enrollment goals for its schools:

  • Elementary school maximum enrollments of 650 to 700.
  • Middle school enrollment at a 1,000 capacity with a "Team" concept at each grade level so students will have the same group of teachers.
  • High schools enrollments of about 2,000.
