Located on the north edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, Denton Independent School District is the second fastest-growing school district in North Texas. The current student population of 20,892 is anticipated to exceed 25,000 by 2010.

Denton ISD’s dedicated staff delivers all the programs of a larger school district, while maintaining a more optimal "small school climate." The district extends 180 square miles with a total of 30 facilities.

To maintain this climate, Denton ISD has adopted enrollment goals for its schools:

  • Elementary school maximum enrollments of 650 to 700.
  • Middle school enrollment at a 1,000 capacity with a "Team" concept at each grade level so students will have the same group of teachers.
  • High schools enrollments of about 2,000.

The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) tests compare school performance to State of Texas averages. The following table contains the most recent Denton ISD results.
