Downtown Economic Development Incentives
As a city located in one of the fastest growing regions in Texas, the City of Denton has seen a recent spike in suburban commercial and residential development. With this increase in suburban development comes the need to ensure that historic downtown Denton remains a functional and vital part of the city. With the adoption of the Downtown Master Plan in 2001, the City of Denton made clear its belief that an integral component of a healthy and vibrant city is the smart economic development of downtown Denton.
By identifying potential catalyst sites for redevelopment, by reinvesting in current properties and business, and by attracting new businesses, the City is working to ensure that downtown Denton continues to thrive in the face of suburban development.
In order to facilitate the economic development of downtown, the City of Denton is prepared to offer a variety of incentives that will serve to improve existing properties and businesses in addition to encouraging new development within the district.
Downtown Incentive Reimbursement Grant Program
The City of Denton Economic Development Department works to revitalize and enhance the unique character of Downtown through historic preservation and community involvement, while at the same time promoting Downtown, providing educational and technical assistance to business and property owners, and maintaining the beauty of Denton. As an economic incentive, the City of Denton Economic Development Department has designed an incentive reimbursement grant program that provides up to $50,000 for qualifying projects. The federal government also administers a tax credit program for rehabilitation to historic structures. Click here for more information.
