Texas Downtown Association President's Awards

The objective of the Texas Downtown Association President's Awards is to recognize and honor the people and projects that have achieved excellence in Texas downtowns. By honoring the achievements of people and projects, the public is better educated about the importance of quality projects and hardworking people in downtown efforts. Further, the President's Awards set a standard of excellence for those working in downtown revitalization and preservation, from city leaders and downtown professionals to architects and volunteers.

Since 1990, the City of Denton has been the recipient of twenty Texas Downtown Association President's Awards, including two Downtowner of the Year recipients, Best Downtown Management Program, Best Downtown Marketing Program, Newcomer of the Year, and numerous awards for downtown rehabilitation projects.

Great American Main Street Award

The Great American Main Street AwardAn annual honor sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington, DC, the Great American Main Street Award™ is given based on a local Main Street program's public and private participation, community support, positive impact on the economy of their central business district, and the restoration and adaptive use of key historic buildings. The award is open to towns and cities of all sizes, and the prize includes $5,000 to be used to further their revitalization effort.

Denton, Texas was named a Great American Main Street City in 1999.

Texas Festivals and Events Association

Texas Festivals and Event AssociationThe Texas Festivals and Events Association is the largest state festival association in the country that educates and promotes the festival and event industry in Texas and New Mexico.

Since 2000, the City of Denton has been the recipient of nearly 30 Texas Festival and Events Association Marketing Awards for both events and marketing activities. Events such as the Dog Days of Summer Celebration and the Arts, Antiques & Autos Extravaganza are repeatedly awarded for their creative brochures, posters, advertisements, and photographs. Additionally, promotional pieces like the quarterly newsletter, annual sponsorship packages and downtown merchandise sales have also received recognition.

Preserve America Community

Preserve America CommunityPreserve America is a White House initiative developed in cooperation with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, the U.S. Department of the Interior, and the U.S. Department of Commerce. The goals of this initiative include a greater shared knowledge about our nation's past, strengthened regional identities and local pride, increased local participation in preserving the country's irreplaceable cultural and natural heritage assets, and support for the economic vitality of communities.
