Business Retention and Expansion

Business retention is a key focus of Denton's economic development program. The Denton Chamber of Commerce and City of Denton Economic Development staff continually visit established businesses to keep apprised of industry trends. In many cases, elected officials attend. Visits are followed up with specific contacts and information in response to any questions or concerns that may have be voiced in the visit. The Economic Development staff also work with existing businesses in the recruitment of business suppliers.

In addition to serving as Denton businesses' one-stop shop for assistance, Economic Development staff provide community demographic and other resource information. They sponsor events and activities where Denton businesses can network with each other as well as their elected officials.

Expanding businesses may contact the City's Economic Development office for assistance throughout the expansion process, which may consist of providing information, facilitating meetings with key City staff or officials, or guiding the business to the appropriate City representative.

Small Business Assistance

The Small Business Development Center, an arm of North Central Texas College, is located at the Denton Chamber of Commerce office. The Center's manager provides assistance to small and start-up businesses which includes:

Business plan development
Marketing plan development
Location of financing resources
Networking opportunities
Training in basic business procedures

Education Partnerships

The Business Development Officer for the City of Denton works closely with the Denton Independent School District, North Central Texas College, Texas Woman's University and the University of North Texas in creating opportunities for the training and advancement of Denton's workforce. The Business Development Officer assists local businesses to form partnerships with these educational institutions in specialized training for employees and research and development projects.
