Denton Airport Opens Parallel Taxiway

Denton, TX – On Thursday, July 26th, Denton Airport officially opened a new parallel taxiway. The construction of the taxiway began in fall of 2007 at a cost of approximately $3.4 million, and gave the airport a full length parallel taxiway adjacent to the runway. A Texas Department of Transportation Aviation Division grant covered 90% of the cost of the project with the City covering the remaining 10% of the cost.

“The taxiway is a great addition to the airport’s infrastructure, especially since the facility is experiencing a significant increase in traffic due to the dynamic growth of the entire area,” claims Damon Ward, CEO of Business Air Center at Denton Airport.

The construction included the taxiway pavement, as well as the installation of taxiway lights and signs.

“Certainly the opening of the taxiway gives the airport an increased level of safety,” says Rick Woolfolk, Chairman of the Denton Airport Advisory Board. “With that in mind, it was designed and built with the same integrity for aircraft usage as the runway.”

Denton Airport has approximately 230 based aircraft and experiences approximately 120,000 airport operations a year with a large amount of corporate jet and air cargo activity. The airport attracts aircraft operations from all over the world due to its major maintenance facilities as well as its location and convenience. The addition of the taxiway will increase the safety and capacity of the airport for the airport users.

“The new taxiway is a very beneficial addition to the Denton Airport, and is just one of many enhancements in progress as we continue to develop the airport and solidify the facility’s position as the North Texas Airport of Choice,” stated Tim Whitman, Airport Manager.

Future planned projects at the airport include the completion of a new terminal and administration building, which is currently under construction and scheduled for completion in the fall of 2007. The extension of the runway to 7000 feet, and the design and construction of a new taxiway from the runway to the south east side of the airport where property is available for development are also planned.
