Denton understands its future vibrancy begins with a dedication to education. While Denton often receives national recognition for its post-secondary institutions’ various programs and offerings, the foundation of that success is laid through a commitment to excellence in primary and secondary schooling in the Denton Independent School District (ISD). 

The Denton ISD has provided quality education since its founding in 1882. It encompasses 180 square miles and contains all or parts of 18 cities and communities. Although it covers a large area, Denton ISD's unique combination of high-quality programming and small-town community environment separates it from the growing, larger suburban school districts within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Denton ISD includes four comprehensive high schools, eight middle schools, 23 elementary schools, two early childhood centers, an alternative high school, an advanced technology complex and other specialized schools and centers. The diverse range of students it serves speaks 53 different languages.

Denton ISD demands excellence in its educational programs. It is indeed an academic community where citizens are highly engaged in education. One example is the LaGrone Advanced Technology Complex, a professional training facility that offers high school students the opportunity to prepare for high-demand careers. Denton ISD added LaGrone Academy in 2021, where high school juniors and seniors receive professional training, post-secondary credits, certifications and more in various technical fields.
