Denton EDP Investor Profile: Madem-Moorecraft
July 10, 2024
In 2017, Madem-Moorecraft Reels USA, Inc. was formed when Brazil-based Madem Reels Group joined forces with USA-based Moorecraft Reels, Inc. This joint venture helped expand Madem-Moorecraft into more North American territory and has proven successful, most recently with the grand opening of its second manufacturing plant in Denton, TX.
Madem-Moorecraft is the world leader in the manufacture of wooden reels for the electrical cable industry, with seven production plants in Bahrain, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, and the U.S., supplying customers in over 40 countries.
Madem-Moorecraft: worldwide leader
Madem-Moorecraft’s North American success began with its North Carolina location, harkening to Moorecraft’s origination there. This facility expanded in 2019 with a second automated, nailed wooden reel production line, allowing the company to create production capacity to reach more wire and cable producers within the USA and Canada. Continued business growth set the stage for the October 2, 2023, grand opening of Madem-Moorecraft’s second North American manufacturing plant in Denton.
In a November 2023 press release, president of Madem-Moorecraft Reels USA Marcos Conde Ramalho said the company’s most advanced industrial engineering project will be in Denton. “This manufacturing system is made up of innovative machinery and brings pride to the Madem-Moorecraft team and Madem Group worldwide. It all has been designed to deliver unparalleled wooden and plywood reel experience to the North American cable industry.”
The plant will be the most sophisticated lumber reel manufacturing plant in the world once fully operational. Josh McCoy, General Manager of Denton Madem-Moorecraft, stated the facility is operating at partial capacity, with more equipment brought in daily to be fully operational by October.
Denton advantages
Denton’s significant assets made the decision for Madem-Moorecraft to expand there a wise investment, starting with its strategic location. Interstate 35 runs through Denton, at the northern terminus of the I-35W and I-35E “split” that passes through Fort Worth and Dallas, respectively. The highway extends from Laredo, TX, at the U.S.-Mexico border to Duluth, MN, covering 1,568 miles through six states as the third-longest north-south interstate highway in the country. U.S. Route 380 presents immediate east-west access directly through Denton.
“Those highway systems present a tremendous trucking corridor, not only for businesses to get material and ship our product, but to access drivers to use that supply chain efficiently,” said McCoy.
Another Denton advantage is the presence of a large, qualified workforce.
“With Denton’s large population and the number of other similar cities in the vicinity, finding good employees is, quite honestly, fairly easy,” said McCoy.
The Denton Economic Development Partnership provides another significant advantage.
“The camaraderie and productive environment the Denton EDP facilitates in the local business community is tremendous,” said McCoy. “They bring businesses together to climb the mountains of opportunity present here.”
