NCTSBDC connects small businesses with funding, growth resources

August 1, 2025

The North Central Texas Small Business Development Center is guiding Denton entrepreneurs to new heights with support services designed to address gaps in small business development and scaling resources. In 2024, the SBDC helped 67 new local businesses launch. These small companies created 254 jobs and infused $10,945,086 into the economy. The NCTSBDC also served 642 clients and businesses over the same period.

Building on these successes in 2025, new enterprises in Denton and the surrounding communities can use the NCTSBDC to draft and meet short-term priorities and long-term goals. From business plans to market research, small business development centers are a valuable, no-cost, and confidential resource.

Meet the NCTSBDC

The North Central Texas SBDC serves Denton, Cooke, and Montague counties from the campus of North Central Texas College – its home for 38 years. Office locations available by appointment only include the Denton SBDC, Point Bank in Corinth, Gainesville, Lewisville, and NCTC Bowie. At no cost and confidential appointments, SBDC staff provide advising, training, and information to existing small businesses and prospective small business owners.

“Overall, the NCTSBDC plays a pivotal role in fostering local economic development by empowering entrepreneurs, supporting business growth, and facilitating access to vital resources,” Lori Logan Hines, Director of the NCTSBDC, said. “Whether through advising on start-up challenges, providing funding resources, or promoting expansion into global markets, the center is dedicated to helping businesses thrive in a competitive marketplace.”

Who can benefit from the services of the NCTSBDC?

It’s not necessary to walk into an SBDC meeting with a fully outlined idea and a business plan. In fact, getting started with an SBDC business advisor early can help avoid common planning pitfalls and streamline setup and operations through feasibility studies, market research, workforce planning, and business and strategic plan development.

Established businesses can also benefit from the same SBDC services when it’s time to work on financing packages, scale a business, or start succession planning. Similarly, when it’s time to set a professional marketing plan or amplify existing efforts, SBDC seminars and resources tackle key issues for entrepreneurs. Advisors always utilize hands-on training to ensure entrepreneurs leave with the awareness and skills needed to successfully implement and maintain plans.

What are core services at North Central Texas SBDC?

NCTSBDC meets Denton small business needs with three categories of assistance: advising, training, and information. One-on-one consultations with SBDC advisors fall into the advising category, and these sessions include feasibility and start-up planning, business plan preparation, financial management, expansion and growth support, access to capital, loan packaging, online presence, and general management strategies for small businesses. Multiple sectors are covered in SBDC services, including retail, the service manufacturing industry, and wholesale, according to the SBDC website. Small business owners can make an appointment at any office in the NCTSBDC area here.

For training purposes, NCTSBDC offers no-cost and reduced-cost workshops, seminars, and courses designed for entrepreneurs. Qualified professionals from across the business world lead these sessions, and past events are archived on YouTube. A calendar of upcoming training sessions is also available online. SBDC informational resources include contracting with the government, cybersecurity, international trade, intellectual property protection, and technology transfer details. The NCTSBDC can also connect business owners with other local agencies focused on small business growth and economic development. Check out partners in Denton County here.
